Santa Luce

Holy Light is part of the province of Pisa and from 1927 to 1957 the town was merged with that of Orciano Pisano, forming the town of Santa Light Orciano until 1957 when it was again divided. The territory stretches between the valleys of Valdera and the hills Leghorn in its territory covering the villages of Santa Light, Pomaia, Pastina and Pieve Santa Light. The area already known and inhabited since the Etruscan came under the control of various family houses with the first Cadolingi of Fucecchio, Upezzinghi of Pisa, until 1406, when the territory had to surrender the domain Florentine. During a bankruptcy attempted rebellion in Florence, in 1496 the castle and the walls of the village of Santa Luce were destroyed. The country still remembers the remains of the medieval fortress still currently stored. Del past Holy Light are still intact the ancient layout of the feudal village that follows the line of fortifications and comes to gather circles around the space from which the castle dominated the valley. Mainly the local economy is in good part basa agriculture. Most important is the production of oil, wine, honey and cereals. In the village of Santa Light also can still find jobs, traditional activities and professions that had been lost over time, as the work of a carbonaio among the last still active in Italy, or craftsmen of alabaster.
